Where Are The White Women?
Lying amidst the hundreds of broken, bleeding bodies of friends, families and people they’ve never met, people crying out in languages they’ve never heard, sitting and sleeping in their own faeces and piss and vomit and menstrual fluid, jumping overboard into the Atlantic or being cast in there purposely because “the ship will buckle from too many Niggers being onboard”, having their genitals cut off and fed to dogs, watching as their husbands and sons and daughters and mothers and wives and friends and elderly relatives are castrated, breast-ironed, stabbed in the private parts by rapiers and cutlasses, raped by White men and women alike, having acid poured down their throat or splashed over their skin, boiled in oil, tarred and feathered, lynched by the thousands and set afire, having their homes and churches and schools bombed EVERYDAY, forcing to watch as their newborn babies are fed to alligators, trampled beneath the horses and bayonets of nigger-catchers, having their natural beauty be made of as an INTERNATIONAL mockery, as something sinful and dark and evil, forced out of their religions en masse to worship a God made in the image of the Oppressor, trying to rebuild a life in a world that does not want them because darkness is degrading, wicked and wrong and lightness is pure, high and holy, where kinky is demonic and wavy-straight is lovely, trying to reclaim a cultural identity and a magic of language that was ripped out of their ancestors without provocation, forever feeling like they’re caught between worlds upon worlds?
No. Fucking. Where.
I just want to point out this amazing piece of prose as reason for the anxiety non-whites have about racism and race in general. This is such a totalizing force and history working against us. For black folks, its a legacy of having your children fed to alligators. Don’t you dare come up in here and cry your white woman tears and tell me you know what its like. You suffer as a woman because you are at home. Black and non-white women suffer as the woman that works inside your home.
