I guess it's really easy to be "color blind" when you're white

political-linguaphile:

it would really easy for POC, too…except not because we get to live in a society where the color of your skin determines your worth as a human being. Where we’re told to “go back to X country”, even though our ancestors have probably been in this country longer than their’s. Where your people were treated as animals. Where your people were slaves. Where statistics and stereotypes are constantly fighting against you. Where land was without remorse stolen from you. A society that brands your humanity as “illegal”. A society that has no respect for your culture, language, and customs. A society were you’ll always be an “other”. A society that appropriates your culture, and somehow thinks that they’re “including” or “honoring” you. A society that thinks they’re somehow doing you a favor by letting you co-exists with them.

I can’t even imagine the privilege you must have to ignore all of this, and call yourself “color blind”. I also can’t understand why we live in a society where “color blindness”, something that could have a positive thing, is now used to disregard other people’s struggles.

Why do we keep doing everything wrong, humanity?
